Over the past few years, the key phrase for our country has been "Go Green." I will be the first to admit that going green is not as easy as the celebrities make it look. Us regular folks can't just go out and buy a toyota prius and then brag about it to all of our friends, because frankly they could care less what we drive. Also, those celebrities probably pay people to do all of their "green goodness." Anyway, I am getting away from my point.
As a citizen of this country I want to do all that I can to help out our environment, not because of what hollywood says but because I think it is important to take care of what God has created for us. So, I am trying to do my part and it all started with the ever present plastic grocery bag. So, I have ended up with a closet full of plastic bags.
Then one day, when shopping at Wal-Mart, I saw they had bins you could bring your plastic and recycle them at the store. Great!!!! That lasted for a couple of months and now they are gone. When I think about it, those bins were always full when I would try to deposit my plastic so they were doing a good job. I don't know why they took them away. When we moved houses, I got rid of my closet full of bags...I recycled them, but now, 1 year later I have the same problem...a closet full of plastic bags. "I have to find another way" I thought.
So, I decided to buy some reusable shopping bags from Wal-Mart...they were just $0.50 each and I bought 4 of them. That was the best $2.00 I have spent. I LOVE the reusable shopping bag. I didn't think they would hold that much, but everytime I go shopping they hold all of my groceries. If I had a family of 4 or 6 I would probably need more bags, but they are not that much. I am proud to go shopping and use my bags. When I walk out of the store, I am proud that I am not taking home plastic to store in my closet and I think that I am doing just a little to help out the environment.
